Covid-19 Updates from Oceanside

Covid-19 Updates from Oceanside

March 18th 2020 - Connect Groups

Given the further updates announced today from the BC Ministry of Health regarding the strong message of social distancing, we feel best at this point to cancel connect groups for the time being.

Although groups should not meet together physically we encourage to still stay connected as groups via alternate means. We firmly believe that this current season will lead to a strengthening of our relationships together although at times we are apart.

March 17th 2020 - Tuesday Night Prayer Gatherings

Dear Oceanside Church,

Our in-person Tuesday Night Prayer meeting is cancelled tonight as limitations have come into effect upon where we usually meet, and our other venues do not meet distancing requirements set by the province.

However, we know that just because we can not meet physically together as a group we can still pray in unity while apart.

Tonight we ask that you pause the news broadcasts and instead spend time in prayer for our nation, leaders, front-line workers, vulnerable people, economy, and local communities.

In February we heard Katie and Nathan share in our Sunday gatherings about the part we play individually and together in prayer. We believe that this season is the perfect time to put into practice what we’ve learned, and to pray out to God as a community.

Such times as this are amazing opportunities for the church to arise with the hope that we all have in Christ Jesus. We pray that we wouldn’t shrink back in fear, but instead that the light of Jesus would shine brighter in the darkness than ever before through us all.

Romans 8:15 (ESV)
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

1 John 5:14–15 (NIV)
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

We look fowarded to gathering again digitally through our Sunday Live-Stream this coming weekend at

In prayer,
The Oceanside Church Eldership Team

March 13th 2020 - Sunday Gathering Now Live-streamed

Dear Oceanside Church,

As you are all aware BC’s Provincial Health Officer has asked that all gatherings of 250 people or more people in BC be suspended until further notice. As the Oceanside Church Eldership Team continues to look towards the Ministry of Health for guidance on Covid-19 we are announcing that Oceanside’s Sunday Services will take place via Live-Stream until further notice.

Starting this Sunday, March 15th, join us at on Youtube or at at 9:30am to view the live-steam. We’ll have acoustic worship, a message, as well as prayer and announcements into the current situation.

We encourage you not to be fearful in these times as God has NOT given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7). We are praying that anxiety and fear won’t govern our communities; but rather that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7). We also pray that we all find opportunity to share comfort, hope, and perhaps even supplies with our neighbours during this trying time.

This Sunday we also encourage you to consider watching the live-stream with a couple others as we gather together in smaller numbers around Nanaimo. Let us not shy away from God’s community at this time, but also be wise and sensible with a heart to obey the advice of our government as they work hard to keep the vulnerable safe.

If you have a fever or are experiencing flu-like symptoms, we would encourage you to call your family doctor or call 811 to speak to a qualified health care professional and to seek testing if advised. Additionally, please reach out to your group leaders so we can be in prayer for you.

With love and full of faith,
The Oceanside Church Eldership Team
