We believe the hope of Jesus isn’t just for Sunday mornings—it’s for every part of life.
Our mission is to help people become lifelong disciples of Jesus who love God, love others, and make disciples themselves. Because church isn’t the destination. Following Jesus is.
These four values shape the way we live, lead, and grow together as a church.
As His Devoted Disciples
Jesus is the center of everything we are and everything we do. We do not build our lives around ideas, preferences, or traditions — we build our lives around Him. We are learning to keep Jesus at the center in every decision, every relationship, and every part of who we are as devoted disciples.
To His Word & His Ways
We are a people who continually return to God’s Word. Scripture is not background guidance for us — it is the foundation that shapes our life. When we drift or become shaped by other voices, we return to His Word again, trusting it to reorient, correct, and form us in truth.
To The Holy Spirit
We live open to the Holy Spirit in every part of life. We do not try to control or manufacture what only God can do — we yield. As a community, we are learning to stay open, responsive, and available to the Spirit’s leading, trusting Him to transform us and empower us for what He calls us to.
His Kingdom in Nanaimo
We are a people sent on mission. The Kingdom of God is not something we observe from a distance — we participate in it as we go. We live sent into our city and beyond it, carrying the Gospel through prayer, generosity, love, and bold faith, believing God’s Kingdom advances wherever His people are sent.
Oceanside is led by a team of elders rather than one central personality. That means you’ll regularly hear teaching from different voices, benefit from different gifts and perspectives, and experience leadership that’s rooted in accountability and shared wisdom.
We believe that’s a healthy model of church leadership, and one that helps keep Jesus—not any individual—at the centre of our church.
Our beliefs shape everything we teach, how we lead, and how we care for people.
We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God. In its original writings it is fully trustworthy and serves as the final authority for what we believe and how we live. We believe there is one God who eternally exists as three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who together reveal God’s character, purpose, and plan of redemption.
We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the substitute for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended into heaven, and now serves as our High Priest and Advocate. We believe He will personally return to establish His Kingdom in fullness.
We believe every person is created in God’s image but has been separated from Him through sin. Because of humanity’s sinful nature, all people stand in need of God’s saving grace. Salvation is received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone. Those who trust in Him are forgiven, justified through His sacrifice, born again by the Holy Spirit, adopted into God’s family, and given the hope of eternal life. We believe in the future resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous, with eternal life for those who belong to Christ and eternal separation from God for those who reject Him.
We believe the Holy Spirit lives within every believer, bringing new life, producing Christlike character, and empowering the Church for ministry and witness. The gifts of the Holy Spirit remain active today and are given for the building up of the Church according to Scripture. We believe God continues to heal, perform miracles, and work powerfully through His people as He wills.
We believe Jesus Christ is the Head of His Church. Every believer is part of His body, called to holiness, spiritual maturity, and faithful service. Every Christian shares in the priesthood of believers and has been gifted for ministry. Christ has given leaders to equip His Church for works of service, and every follower of Jesus is called to participate in the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations.
We partner with New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI), a global team of experienced church leaders who serve and strengthen local churches around the world. NCMI is not a denomination or governing organization. Instead, they come alongside pastors and eldership teams with encouragement, wisdom, training, and accountability, helping churches remain healthy, effective, and faithful to the mission of Jesus. As an autonomous, self-governing church, Oceanside is voluntarily partnered with NCMI, valuing their apostolic input, relational support, and shared commitment to making disciples and advancing God’s Kingdom.
