soul nights

Our First Gathering | September 19, 2026 What a wonderful evening we had at our very first Soul Nights! We gathered with around 40 people for an evening of fellowship, laughter, good food, and meaningful conversations. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make this first gathering so special! A Night of Connection We played volleyball, jumbo Jenga, and corn-hole, shared some good food, and spent time getting to know our brothers and sisters in Christ. What a joy to see new connections and friendships beginning to form! The Heart Behind Soul Nights We also took time to share why Soul Nights exists. Our desire is to see single adults in their 20s and 30s flourish and thrive in Christ, growing in spiritual maturity, embracing the present season with joy and purpose, and actively serving God's Kingdom. We were reminded that singleness is not a waiting room. We are called to faithfully follow Jesus and live fully for Him in whatever season we find ourselves. The goal is not marriage. The goal is Jesus. One of the highlights of the evening was our panel discussion, where we explored God's calling, faithfulness, identity in Christ, surrender, and finding our satisfaction in Jesus. People were engaged and asked thoughtful, honest questions about relationships, contentment in singleness, navigating disappointment, church culture, and trusting God when life does not go as we hoped. We were especially encouraged to see the conversation extend beyond the panel to everyone gathered in the audience. Two questions that captured some of these conversations were: How do we continue trusting Jesus through disappointment and seasons of waiting? How do we balance contentment in singleness with the desire to pursue marriage? One of our panelists shared an illustration that really stayed with us: We cannot fit the ocean into a cup, but we can surrender the cup to the ocean. In the same way, rather than simply asking for more of God, we are invited to give more of ourselves to Him. What a beautiful reminder that following Jesus is a life of surrender. Whatever season we find ourselves in, we are invited to seek Him, trust Him, and give ourselves fully to Him. At the end of the evening, we were invited to reflect on how God might be calling us to grow in this season, whether through community and friendship, mentorship and discipleship, service and ministry, stewardship and obedience, or spending more intentional time in God's presence and His Word. We were encouraged to consider one practical step we could take in response. So, how is God inviting you to respond in this season? Our hope is that Soul Nights would be more than a quarterly gathering. We want to become a community of disciples who are actively growing in our relationship with Jesus, serving Him, and encouraging one another along the way. At the end of the evening, we were invited to reflect on five areas of our lives: Community & Friendship | Mentorship & Discipleship | Service & Ministry | Stewardship & Obedience | Presence & Study We each had an opportunity to consider what the Lord might be highlighting in our lives and one practical step we could take in response. So, we would love to ask you again: What do you feel God is calling you into more of? Have you taken a step toward that since we gathered? Is there someone who could encourage you or walk alongside you? We'd Love to Hear From You? What were you grateful for from our first gathering? Do you have any feedback, questions, or ideas for future Soul Nights? Simply reply to this email. We would love to hear from you! Our next Soul Nights is Saturday, November 28, 2026! We are excited to gather again, and we have more in store for this community. Stay tuned! More exciting updates and details coming soo Blessings, Julie & the Soul Nights Team

Ministry Evening with Ken Grenfell

Thursday, October 22 & Friday, October 23 · 7–9 PM Departure Bay Baptist Church, 3510 Departure Bay Rd If you lead or serve at Oceanside, these two evenings are for you. We're setting aside time this October to learn together what it means to lead in step with the Holy Spirit. Ken Grenfell is joining us again from Virginia. He's been a familiar face in our church for the last 20 years, and he's known for his prophetic gifting. He brings both a deep understanding of the Holy Spirit's work and a lived example of it. Our leaders come from many different backgrounds and church experiences, and that's a gift. For these two nights, we'll open God's Word together, stay open to what the Spirit is doing, and ask Him for more of His gifts at work when we gather. Each evening will include teaching, time for your questions, practical examples, and a time of ministry together. We'd love to see you at both nights. Everyone is welcome to join us.

You weren't meant to follow Jesus alone.

September has been a month of new starts around here. A few things launched, and each one is a different door into the same thing: following Jesus alongside other people. It's possible to attend church for years and never really be known. We don't want that for you. We believe the best environment for spiritual growth is authentic relationships, and relationships don't happen by accident. Someone has to open a door, and someone has to walk through it. So here's a look back at what happened this month, and a few ways to step in. The students kicked things off. On Friday, September 18th, high schoolers gathered at The Junction for our Youth Kick Off Party. There was pizza and there were obstacle courses. Students met their youth leaders and heard the vision for the year. The invitation was the same for returning students and brand new ones: come, and bring your friends. That's usually how community starts. Someone says there's a place for you, and you show up.Attend Ocean Youth Then Soul Nights began. The next night, Saturday, September 19th, we held the first Soul Nights, our new ministry for single adults in their 20s and 30s. By single, we mean not married. Dating, engaged, divorced, widowed, or anywhere in between. Wherever you are, you're welcome. That first night was about spending time together, getting to know one another, and sharing the vision for this community. And the vision is simple: the goal isn't marriage. The goal is Jesus. Singleness isn't a waiting room. It's a gift, and a meaningful way to live for Christ. Discipleship Groups are open for sign-ups. Discipleship Groups launched this month, and sign-ups are open now. Groups meet throughout the week in homes across Nanaimo. You read Scripture, pray, and have honest conversations. Some nights you dig deep into the Bible. Some nights you spend half the evening talking through what life threw at you that week. Both matter. You don't need to know the Bible inside and out. You don't need the right answers. Expect conversations rather than lectures, prayer rather than pressure, friendship rather than pretending. Probably some coffee, too. If you've been waiting for a good moment to join one, this is it.Find a Discipleship Group Serving is a way in, too. Most of what happens at Oceanside runs on volunteers. Someone sets up the chairs. Someone makes the coffee. Someone plays drums. Someone helps a kid finish their craft. Every one of those jobs matters, and so does every person doing them. I've been serving on a team for 10 years, and it's given me opportunities I never would have had otherwise. I got to play on a worship team in Chicago for the Equip. I've met a lot of like-minded friends along the way. Maybe you've been coming on Sundays and you're not sure how to go deeper. Serving is one of the best ways to get to know people. On a team, you're not just sitting near someone for an hour. You're working toward something together, and that's where friendships have room to grow. You don't need to have it all figured out. Whether you're drawn to chairs, coffee, drums, or crafts, we'd love for you to join a team, and we'll help you find where you fit.Join a Team Your next step. Everyone has a next step. Whether yours is a Discipleship Group or a serving team, click the Next Steps button and let us help you find it. Community isn't something you wait for. It's something you step into. The door's open, and we'd be honoured to walk through it with you.

Soul Nights - our new singles ministry launches September 19th

If you’re single and in your 20s or 30s, we want you to know that you’re invited to Soul Nights. By single, we mean not married; whether you’re dating, engaged, divorced, widowed, or anywhere in between. Wherever you find yourself, you’re welcome. Soul Nights is a new space for single adults in our church to grow, become more like Jesus, and faithfully live out the season God has given us. Soul Nights: the soul meeting its Maker You might be wondering about the name. Soul is at the heart of what this community is about: the soul meeting its Maker, being rooted and united in Christ, and learning to praise and delight in the Lord. At the centre of it all is you and your soul’s relationship with God. We believe that the goal isn’t marriage. The goal is Jesus. Our hope is to build a community where we can know Christ more deeply, grow in spiritual maturity, find joy and contentment in the present season, discover God’s purpose for our lives, and generously serve His kingdom. This isn’t simply a space to talk about dating or marriage. It’s a space to be formed by Jesus, rooted in Him, and equipped to live fully for Him; whatever season we’re in. And if you meet your future spouse along the way, we’ll celebrate with you! But if God calls you to a lifetime of singleness, we’ll celebrate that too. Singleness is not a waiting room; it is a gift and a meaningful way to live for Christ. First soul night launches Saturday September 19th at 6pm at The Junction We’d love for you to join us for our first Soul Nights gathering, where we’ll spend time together, get to know one another, and share the vision for this community. We want to begin building a space where single adults can grow, flourish, and thrive together in Christ. Whether you’ve been looking for a community like this for a while or you’re not quite sure what to expect, you are welcome here.Register here

Recap: ONE80 Volunteers had an EPIC Launch Night on Saturday!

Our Children’s Ministry Volunteer Launch was a night of rock-n-roll, connection, and celebration! With a fun 1950s theme, a Sundae bar and delicious burgers, and a hula-hoop competition, we had a great time honouring our volunteers, enjoying one another and building community. But beyond the food, fun, and retro vibes, the core of the evening was about God’s heart for this next generation. We are so grateful for the incredible privilege and responsibility of supporting children to meet face to face with Jesus. We took time to connect, pray together, and share vision for the year ahead. It was an opportunity to strengthen relationships, encourage one another, and build an even deeper bond across our volunteer teams. We’re so grateful for each person who serves our children and families. What a JOY to look ahead together and believe for an incredible year in ONE80 Kids!!!
